NBB fit?

Here are photos. DS is tiny. Will be 8 in Dec. 43# and 47-48". I noticed his legs were hanging over the edge of the Monterey a little so I tried the Santa Fe I have sitting around. Fit is actually pretty good as far as I can see. I hate to lose the upper body protection though. He says it's more comfortable. Thoughts?

I made him put his arms out to the side so we could see the belt. So if he looks a little awkward, that's why.

He's only been out of his FR80 for a year. He used it on a long road trip in August and is almost maxed out on it.

I thought the Santa Fe was just a backless Monterey? Or is it because there's no back he can sit back farther? The fit looks good to me.

Thanks.

I think I'm wondering if its a good fit and if its better to have him in this with his legs at the edge, or keep him high backed for the wings. Not a car sleeper so no concern there.

Legs over the edge is not a safety concern at all. In fact, I'd rather their femurs be longer than the seat pan so they don't slouch. The only reason I think I'd go backless due to legs is if a short seat pan was causing pain due to lack of leg support.

Personally, I continue to use a HBB as long as they fit.

ETA, my eldest rode in a Monterey at 11yo (and 5 stepping) one day just for fun (rather than move the extra booster to the trunk), and the belt fit was great, even though his legs were waaay past the edge ;)

Yes and yes.

And I think it's just this particular captains chair that the shoulder belt fit is good. Because it's part of the chair and comes out lower.
