Help with seats and air travel for 4 year-old twins

I just talked to my SD tonight and she mentioned that her kids will be going on their first plane trip next month to Nebraska to visit their great grandmother. Of course the first thing I thought about was seats. I asked her if she had thought about what they will do and she said not yet, but that they didn't want to haul theirs with them (they are currently in the MR65, but are very close to outgrowing them FF). She said that family will be picking them up and she was hoping they might be able to find them seats to borrow. I told her to be careful if she goes that route, to make sure they are coming from a trusted source.

If they can't find any to borrow, what would you suggest? While I told her I wouldn't recommend boostering them at 4 years old, in this case it might be the easiest solution. I mentioned buying boosters and having them shipped there then having a family member ship them back to her.

Is there another solution that might be easier?

Is she against taking seats on the plane? That would be the first choice. 4 year olds get tired and wiggly and most of them like having a comfy place to rest.

If that isn't an option, then, having seats shipped there that they can have shipped home (or even just use on the flight home) and then to have them as spares/seats to move into after the MR are outgrown. I would look at the sureride, or harmony seats. Maybe Maestro?

Well, she said they didn't want to take THEIR seats (heck, I wouldn't want to haul two My Rides around either!) but maybe I could talk her into getting two Maestros since they are so light and they can be used as a booster later. They could definitely use them as spare seats. They are also easy to install because I briefly had one. I definitely would rather have them harnessed. I had forgotten all about the Maestro, so thanks for the suggestion! Hopefully she will agree to take them on the plane with them, but if not, at least have them shipped there.

I think a Maestro is overkill for a single trip.

Is there any chance they still fit in a FF Scenera? They can get two Sceneras for almost the same price as a Maestro and just donate them at the end of the trip.

At age 4+, I would be inclined to think about the Harmony Folding Booster.

If they are close to outgrowing their MR65's I would say purchase 2 SureRides - use them on the plane and as replacements for their current seats. Tons of harness height and more growing room than the Maestro, lightweight, easy to install.

I was thinking it might be better, if possible, to find seats that could replace the MR's that they are about to outgrow. Scenera wouldn't work because Katelyn has outgrown that seat by weight and Owen would be pretty close as well.

If we went with boosters, than they would still need to purchase other seats to replace the My Rides. Knowing how their dad is about money (frugal) even though cost is not an issue for them, finding something that would work as replacement seats would probably be best.

How much longer could they last in these since they are only convertible seats. At age 4 years, 2 months, I was thinking about a combinations seat. I

I just might have to hit the stores and check out some seats this weekend. I won't get the kids until 5:00 so I have plenty of time on Saturday to check out seats alone. We are actually babysitting them overnight on Saturday with no set time for getting them back on Sunday. I could probably get their mom to meet me on Sunday afternoon and look at seats. She could see the options, then decide. Babies R Us is halfway between my house and their house so it would be a good place to meet up to at least look at the Sure Ride.
