Booster for 4 year old

I have a 42 pound 43 inch 4 year old, who has outgrown his Evenflo Appolo in terms of wt. I'm very reluctant to pull him out of the 5 point harness and into a belt positioning booster. However, I have a lot of concerns about the Nania Airway's long crotch strap - the pictures of kids I've seen in this seat have the buckle mid abdomen, which really makes me nervous. The Marathon is my other choice, but when I put him in one today at BRU, his ears are only about 1-2 inches from the top of the seat (I was so surprised by how short the seat was I didn't look at where the shoulder straps would be). I feel like he'd outgrow this expensive seat very quickly - before reaching the 49" limit. I can't find any info about the height of the Nania seat back.

If I go to a straight belt positioning booster, which do you recommend? Is he truly going to be safe in one? I'm so worried he'll just be squirming all over the place. I know most people used them at this age, so am I just being silly?

I look forward to hearing your advice - thanks!

Hi. Did you see this recent thread?

The seat back height of the Airway is about the same as the Graco CarGos. I don't know how that compares to the Apollo.

I share your concern about putting your 4 yr old in a booster. We just transitioned my 4.5 yr old (45", 47 lbs.) to a booster in one of our vehicles and it's been a learning process for him. I do feel he's safer in a harnessed seat, but putting a Husky (the last harnessed seat he'll fit in) just isn't an option in that vehicle for several reasons.

There are many dedicated belt positioning boosters available now. I prefer the ones with EPS foam in the head rest, but it's hard to resist those Evenflo Big Kids with the lights in the head rest ;). Test the booster fit in your vehicle, since not all boosters will fit in all vehicles.
