Hi all, my 27month old son was premature and tiny so he stayed in his baby car seat until he was about 11 months old, when he got too big for it I did a lot of research online for the best replacement and decided to go for a BeSafe Izi Combi. I'm in the UK and the choice of rear facing seats is rediculously low! I've just bought a second car and went to get another seat for this car but he will only be in this car to be dropped off at my parents house as I go to work 3 days a week so he won't be in it that much, due to this and the lack of space in the car (a VW Polo) plus lack of funds for an expensive seat I decided not to get another Izi Combi (I might be selling this car in 6 months after my short contract has ran out so we won't need a second car). Anyway, back to my question, the high street retailer I went to pointed out that as my 2 year old is so tall now (he's caught up from being prem) he didn't think he would fit in a harnessed seat for much longer so we weighed him and he's 16kg. I was advised to buy the Britax Kidfix High Back Booster which is forward facing and he is only fastened in using the adult seat belt.
As you can imagine I decided against this option but I don't know where to go from here. I know the Britax Max Way, Multi Tech and 2 Way Elite all go rear facing and harness up to 25kg but they have all been listed as 'don't buy' by Which? (a UK organisation that test and review all things from car seats to financial products), so I'm finding it difficult to find out the pro's and con's and reviews of each from a non biased/sales source.
Another issue that I have is that my 4 month old is weighing 7.6kg so he too will soon out grow his baby seat, I had planned to put him in the Izi Combi and put my 2 year old in a different seat when he was about 3, so I might be looking for a new seat for him too. With us having this strange situation of having 2 cars but possibly for only a short period, I can't afford to spend £300 on 4 seats, 2 for each car, especially as 2 may then become useless HOWEVER the safety of my children is far more important to me so if that is what I have to do then I will do it. Ideally if I can get a rear facing harness seat that goes up to at least 25kg which fits a VW Polo and can be transferred between cars easily (therefore reducing any chance of it being installed incorrectly) then I can use this seat for my 2 year old in my second car and transfer it to my main car at weekends once he reaches 18kg, then when my baby out grows his car seat I can decide what alternative to get for him for my second car and he can use the Izi Combi in my main car.
Sorry for my long question, any advice or thoughts would be most useful, thanks everyone.
