Question Fitting 3 Across in a Mercury Mariner?

We are expecting number 3 and would love to not have to buy a new car. We just got this car last year. We currently have a 2 and 4 year old in Cosco Scenaras. The 4 year old is almost at the weight limit and will need a new seat in the next few months. Is it possible to fit 3 across in a Mercury Mariner? And if so, can we keep the two cosco scenaras, one for the 2 year old, one for the new one, and then get a new seat for the four year old? If so, which seat would be the best? We want him in a 5 point harness as long as possible. Thanks!

My first thought is to check out the Diono Radian for your 4yo. It is the narrowist seat on the market and it often works for 3 across. I don't know how wide your car is, but I know my friend was able to get 2 Radians and a Graco Snugride across the back seat of her older Honda Civic.

Start with one Radian and see if you can get all three seats across the back. If that doesn't work but it is close, you might end up wanting to try it with 2 Radians. My friend thought she was going to have to buy a new car to get baby #3 in the vehicle, so she felt like it was a bargain to only have to buy 2 new car seats instead of a new car.

Hi and welcome! Congrats on the new baby! If your 4 year old is not rear facing I would try a combination seat like an Evenflo Secure Kid or the Harmony Defender. Both are narrow and would last a bit longer than most convertible seats. I found it difficult if not impossible to install a forward facing Radian in my Mazda Tribute which is a twin to the Mariner. I think the leather seats may have been a factor though.
