My friend has three kids seven five and three. Currently the older two just use a seat belt and the three yr old an expired/crashed seat. She drives a truck with no head rests in the second row. Would it be safe for the older two to be in backless boosters without head support or just use a seat belt? What would be the cheapest harnessed seat over 40 lbs with tall harness slots.

Poll question
Should she get backless boosters?
Or hust use the seat belt?

Kids need to be in boosters until they pass the 5 step test. Even the biggest kids don't start passing until age 8 and most closer to 10 or 12.

The best harness options would be the evenflo sureride, evenflo maestro, or harmony defender (actually this would probably work well except they are hard to find right now).

The older two would be best in high back boosters. You can find high back evenflo amps and graco turbobooster often for around $35-40. If high backs simply will not happen a lower backless booster may help give them as much head support as possible. Cosco high rise, cosco stack it and harmony literider/youth booster would all be good choices.

While I'd try with all my might to avoid it, if I was in a situation where it was backless without head support or poor positioning with, I'd choose the backless.

In this situation I'd try for high-back, though.

DH saw an ad for that today. It's actually $39.99 with a $20 rebate. I think it was at Meijers. Or Menards. I don't know how far those extend outside the Chicago area, though, or if other stores are doing it too.

Menards... I think they are in most of the mid-west
