Question 3 year old twins and new baby on the way - three across in 2012 highlander?

We have soon-to-be three year old twins, and are expecting a baby in December. We have a 2012 Highlander, and would like to get three across. Currently, the twins are currently in the Evenflo Symphony 65, which are pretty wide. Also, there appears to be no latch in the center seat. Any advice on what to buy and positioning? I would be endlessly grateful!

Congrats on the upcoming addition!

Are the twins rear-facing or forward-facing?

Do you have an infant seat?

Remember that LATCH is no safer than a seatbelt installation, so there are no worries about not having LATCH in the center of the Highlander. YOu will most likely need to use all seatbelt installations, anyway, so it should be fine. (Seatbelt installations usually save space, so that's why I said you'll likely need to use all seatbelt installations, anyway. :))

Yes. They are in the Evenflo symphony 65, which are pretty wide. We wouldn't like to spend a ton of money, but realize we're going to need to buy something. If like an infant carrier type for the new baby until he/she outgrows it. Then I'll have to transition that child, too. Any suggestions?

Thanks! The twins are forward facing. They are tall, so reached the height limit prior to 2 years old! Turning 3 in November...

If you plan to keep them FF, I would try two Harmony Defenders for them. Those are very narrow combination seats (harnessed seats that become boosters later). Another option would be Diono Radians, but that doesn't necessarily make the most sense unless you are willing to turn them back RF.

You are right about the width of the Symphony seats. If you LOVE that seat, you could save one for the baby (if it will fit), but it might make more sense to sell the Symphony seats to help fund the new seats you'll need. :)

For the baby, I would look at the Graco Snugride 30.

Thanks - I will check into the Harmony ones. Any reason why we can't FF the Radian? We ordered some Radian 100s to check sizing, and the FF limits are above 20lbs (which they are).

Oh, you can absolutely FF the Radian! I just hate to see you spend the extra money on a convertible when you only need half of its functions (FF instead of RF and FF). The Radian does have a booster "function," but it is pretty much useless.

I love my Radian FF! You could definitely buy them for use FF only if you want. :)

You can certainly use the radians ffing. I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) that she just meant you'd get more use for your money with a decent combination seat than with the radian. The radian does not make a very good booster although it's a great narrow convertible seat.

Ok - I understand now. Thanks! The only question I have is if not the radian ( as not a good booster) and maybe not the harmony ( I've been reading some bad reviews about the harness length), are there other good combination seats you guts would recommend? Thanks a lot for your continued help!!!
