Can US seats be "scooted back" to create leg room?

I have been looking into some foreign Britax's and it's interesting that in the UK you can push the seat to the end of the seat as long as the base is not hanging off. I have plenty of room behind the base in my car and wonder if that is an option or if the front of the carseat has to be flush up against the backside of the seat. I know legroom isn't a safety or even comfort issue, but it would be nice anyway to create as much as possible.

Not really. There is a Graco infant seat (Click Connect 40) that does "move back" to create leg room, but I am not aware of any other US seats that do that.
