Car seat for travel to and around Asia

We are attempting to go on a 6 month trip around Asia in January: Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan with extended stays (1-2 months) each in Singapore and Seoul.

Our DD will start out at 8 months and finish the trip at 14 months. DD is tall and thin and already about 1.5 inches from growing out of her Chicco Keyfit 30 at 5 months.

My major concern at the moment is what car seat to get? I am looking for a convertible car seat for the flights and for use in cars when we can. We need one that works on the plane forward facing (Cathay Pacific or Singapore Air won't allow RF!!!), as well as being lightweight, and quickly installable RF in taxis and cars we will be in along the way (knowing that this will not always be possible). After a lot of research on this board and others, I think that the Cosco Scenera or Combi Cocorro might be a good option for us. But are there others that we should consider?

I would look at the Evenflo Sureride. It's way taller than either of those and if she's that tall already, it's definitely something to consider. The Coccoro might be too short if she's really exceptionally tall. The Sureride is lightweight and easy to travel with, as well. Easier to install than the Scenera generally.

You will likely encounter many places without seat belts. Definitely no places will have locking seatbelts and probably most will have lap belt only if they do have seatbelts in the back. I would bring a seat with a lockoff, although baby might often need to ride in front if no other seatbelts are available. I would bring a combi coccoro.

Coccoro, for sure. The SureRide's very tall and might give you some problems RF in taxis, a good option if you have to, but I'd recommend a Coccoro far above it. We just took our Coccoro on a 2+ month trip on 2 continents and I can't recommend it highly enough. My huge kid (outgrew the KeyFit at before 5 months) didn't outgrow his coccoro until now, at 15 months. He might still even fit in it technically, I just don't want to weigh him and put a ruler on his daily.

But really what made our extended travel work was planning to stay out of the cars. We took planes, ferries, trains whenever possible, even changing our plans in terms of where to stay based on train stations. A few times we sent one parent in the taxi with the stuff and one parent on foot or public transportation with the kids. Planning to avoid cars really made taking kids around the world a whole lot less stressful.
