Question Tips/Tricks for manufacturing dates

Not sure if this is in the right place, but I am wondering if anyone has tips on how to purchase seats with the most recent manufacturing dates? In fact, what is considered "recent"? Should I consider myself lucky if I get a seat with only 3 months of use time wasted? 6 months? Should I plan on losing a whole year?

If it is different for specific brands or stores, I am looking at getting a Graco MySize 70 from BRU (because they have the only pretty "girly" print I have found for the MySize/Headwise/Size4Me triplets, since I don't like the purple Headwise).

TIA!

Well I view it like this, "will the seat get me to the end of the stage I need it for". So for a convertible that I am buying to RF, will it NOT expire before the child reaches the height/weight limit. No worrying about if I can use it FF. For a combination seat that I'm buying for FF harnessed, will it last harnessed until we don't need it harnessed anymore. Not worrying about if I can use it as a booster.

Reason being is, I really have no idea if the seat will work for my child at that next stage. Maybe it doesn't fit them right anymore, maybe it doesn't work in the vehicle well, maybe we have a different vehicle several years down the road, etc. etc. So if my expiration date meets my immediate goal of RF, harnessed FF, high backed boostering, whatever that might be, I'm typically okay with whatever it is. That being said, nice to get a deal if it's older than a year. ;)

The girls print is Tina correct? I looked at it a couple months ago when it first came out but went with another seat. Anyways, my point is that that pattern is only a couple months old so the DOMs on those will probably be fairly recent.

See that's good to know! It might work out just as you want it to!

Also, keep in mind that seats that come from China typically have a DOM of a minimum of 3 months after they are made as it takes so frickin' long for those crates to get to North America! My Peg convertible had a DOM of almost 3 months prior to it arriving in Canada due to it having to come from Italy.

I just bought the MySize from BRU in Tina two weeks ago, and it had a DOM of 4/29/13. I was fairly surprised that it was 4 months old already, but my goal is to RF my daughter to 4yo, so it definitely will get us that far, and I'm happy with that!

Thanks for your info! It is kinda sad that it mostly boils down to luck, but at least what I am looking for is new enough that I probably won't have to lose too much time :)

ETA: Kabecker- how have you liked yours? I am still a little nervous about the purchase, so any input you have would be great :)
