Broken Red Tabs in an EFTA - replace seat?

I've seen a few threads on here where people had the same problem I've got, only they were told different things than Evenflo is telling me. Now what?

One of the red tabs on my 2010 EFTA broke(in the same way this one did http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=110635)
The OP in that thread(and a few other threads I found on here) were told not to worry as the harness is still attached and doing its job. Today, I was calling to tell them it happened like was recommended in some of the other threads, and was told to discontinue use of the seat! But, since its too old for them to offer a replacement, they'd give me 50% off a new one. They said it'd be $55 for a new 65# Triumph...not a bad deal at all.

We still love our EFTA's but my kiddo has a fairly long torso(4" over head maybe) and is 30# at 20 mos so maybe another year in it rfing...would like to make it at least to age 3 (which he might).

I forgot to ask if I could use that discount on other models or just a more precise replacement.

What would you do?
A - keep using it as others have been instructed to do
B - replace with another triumph
C - count it as a loss and get the seat of my choice (or use a spare I already have but don't love)
D - (***open to your suggestions***)

I'd call tomorrow and ask a different rep the same question. Don't mention that you already asked and see if you get a different answer. Use your backup seat for now

Evenflo offered to replace mine last year, after I called to replace the crotch buckle (which apparently, isn't replaceable...ours quit working). When I made that phone call, the rep told me my broken red tabs WERE a problem, although previous reps told me they were fine (and even as a tech, I think they probably were fine). But my son was using the seat forward facing and I didn't really need a convertible, so I asked if I could use their replacement offer towards a Secure Kid. They agreed to it for the same price. Great replacement seat for us. He still fits in it at age 5 and I think he'll make it harnessed another 6-12 months in it.
