Question How far in advance do you buy a car seat?

Every time I see a good deal on a convertible car seat, I am tempted! I am hoping my kid will be able to stay in her infant seat for another good 7-9 months (until 12-14 monyhs old -- she's pretty small) and I know that buying now means wasted time ticking toward the expiration date and that the "next big thing" could come out in the interim and I'd be kicking myself for not having waited.

On the other hand, I am worried that it could be really pricey if I don't have good buying options at the time when I NEED to move her to the next stage.

My current plan is to resist temptation at least until after the ABC kids expo in Oct, and then to start looking for deals on the one we want.

Am I going about this the wrong way?

AFAIK, you'll know far enough in advance that you'll be able to find a deal. Kids spurt, but they don't spurt two inches at a time, you know? Do you have a particular seat in mind? Some go one sale/are coupon eligible more frequently than others.

On the other hand, if you have more than one car, I personally find it worth it to buy a convertible once you don't tote the baby in the bucket so you have two seats.

There's no "wrong" way. I don't think there's a need to buy a seat and store it unless it's a SUPER AMAZING DEAL, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be better for someone else. If you're getting really stressed about it, for instance, it may be better just to take care of it to put your mind at ease. If that's the case, I like the idea of holding out until ABC so you don't then stress that you just locked yourself into an "old" seat
