Positions 3-6 on Nextfit?

Has anyone used any of the "middle" recline positions on the Nextfit? If so, can you describe the orientation of the seat and the type of vehicle sear you were installing into? I can't for the life of me figure out how it works.

We tried out the Nextfit in our 2010 5-door impreza yesterday, as per the guidance of the amazing folks here. (Tip for newbies like me: don't just set the restraint on the seat -- when we did that we were dismayed to find that there was absolutely no room for the adult up front, but then we installed it tight and it gave us SO much more room and fit like a breeze! I couldn't believe cinching it in made that big of a difference!)

When we tried it, the way it would work for us was in position 2. It was at the very end of the rear-facing zone, though, so only for a baby who can sit more upright (which describes our baby when we'll be ready to buy). Position 1 would have been the correct level for a more reclined baby. Position 3 would not have worked rear-facing.

I have heard of folks needing positions 7, 8 or 9 for front-facing.

So what's the point of 3-6? Has anyone used these in their vehicles? Forward or rear-facing? What kind of car?

Thanks!

Are your seats very sloped or very flat? Maybe those positions are for the opposite type of seat from what is in your car. I don't know because I don't own one, but that is my best guess.
