EU carseat in US?

I'm moving back to NY from London and have a Britax Hi-Way II that I purchased from carseat.se when we moved to the UK 18 months ago. Is it legal for me to use that seat back in the US? I don't want to run into trouble (legally or with our insurance company) if god forbid we get into an accident.

Technically it is not legal to use but there are several parents on here that use Swedish seats in the US. I've used my TWE in the US when traveling there. I liken use of a Swedish seat to making parental decisions about stuff like ignoring the 36" rule for dorel seats when RF.

AFAIK the insurance company cannot not cover your child if you're in an accident. I believe KQ had a Swedish seat in her car when they had a near fatal crash..

I was in a crash with a multitech and the insurance covered it.

It's not legal though.

Insurance paid for a swedish seat in my crash too. It's not legal and we have enough ERF seats now that I usually discourage importing, but moving back with one, I'd see no problem with you using the seat you have until ready to get another one. No one is likely to notice honestly... We were pulled over for a fixit ticket with a Swedish seat and all they asked was how old the kids were for their report, not to mention the crash we got no citations for improper restraint from.
