Oh those stinky old vans. (And these really are quite old vans).
I wrote a letter to the park district last year about the old 15-passenger vans they use (even for tiny kids). They were kindly responsive and indicated they don't use them for kids anymore, but for teens. Not that that's great either, with no headrests.
They even bought a new bus for the preschool!
Today my son has a field trip downtown, so they take the highway. This would make me nervous in a school bus even! But I asked the head counselor if it's buses they are taking? She said yes. 2 small buses. I asked SO NOT THE VANS, RIGHT? I was told not the vans. All the kids are ages 5-9.
Today I drop him off and there is one van and one bus. A counselor tells me they are taking the bus and the van. I barely caught them before they headed into the building. She said he'd be put on the bus, per my request. (So hopefully that's the case). That was close.
I thought I was being so careful and here he almost went downtown in the van! Not to get too into it, but say something awful did happen, and he'd been on the van. And I'd been told no vans. I don't know the legal issues there (I did sign a waiver for the camp), but I expected better communication and information from our park district. Here is where I insert the smiley face that means "finding it hard to trust anyone."
