My 5-month-old is so ready to graduate from his travel system seat. He can't pull his feet up to froggy position anymore in it, so is getting more and more uncomfortable, and we have a cross-country move coming up (16 hours of driving over 2 days). I would love to spend whatever was necessary to get a seat that will last him the longest, but funds are currently tight and I want to make the change now, before the move. He is 19 lbs with a very long torso and nice big head. We will be purchasing a new car in the next year, so I don't know what our needs will be as far as space. We also hope to have a second child in the next 2 years.

I was considering the Evenflo Triumph, but looking around on these forums it seems there are now better seats on the market...is that true? Of course we want one that's safe, but comfort is a huge priority for us (The way I see it, I am able to be a safer driver if my son isn't constantly fussing in the back seat). He also hates the straps digging into his neck, so one with strap covers would be great, but I suppose those can be bought separately? What would you recommend?

Hi, welcome to CSO!

If he's getting short on space in his carrier, I agree that he'll likely be much more comfortable in a convertible for the trip.

I happen to love the Triumph, it's a nice deep comfy seat. Another that is very reasonably priced is the Graco MyRide, right now one of the covers is $109 at Walmart.com. That's a great deal! But there are plenty of options both more and less expensive.

What car is this going into? That will help narrow down. (ETA: I see budget is $200.)

And just a note about strap covers. If the seat doesn't come with them, contact the mfg to see what they say. Some will send you a set, others say they don't want you to use them. Ones sold at BRU and other baby stores are often too bulky, and can interfere with the harness so they're not recommdned.
