I like the 85 for the cup holders. But, do you need more room back there?
Hmm.. I'd probably let him pick if space isn't an issue!
He hates all car seats. He'd probably say no seat. I guess I could let him ride in both and then ask... I can't imagine him giving me a real answer. For months he said all seats hurt... I tried so many seats it was insane.
If space isn't an issue and you aren't planning on passing down the radian when he outgrows it I'd go frontier... It'll last him longer, can be used as a booster, cupholders, etc
That's what I'm thinking. I will still have another radian just in case... I was just wondering if the safe stop provided some additional
benefit to him.
It's my understanding that safe stop is most beneficial when there is no top tether. I wouldn't make my decision just based on safe stop. That said, radian was my choice for a 3 year old C for a 9 day road trip because he had less head slump and it was more comfortable than anything else we owned at that point.
Correct me if I'm wrong since top tethering is mandatory here so my manual doesn't address this, but I thought that you weren't supposed to use the safe stop if there is no top tether, only if the seat is tethered and the child is under 40lbs?
This is correct. The safe stop can be used only when child is FF AND is under 40 lbs AND the top tether is in use.
I would probably keep the Frontier because it will last longer - into booster age.
My XTSL is a pain to tighten the harness when FF - so for that reason, I would choose the Frontier.
