Proposed CarSeat Swap Changes

Based on member feedback, here are some proposed changes to Carseat Swap. Please feel free to comment, as these changes are not yet implemented and may still be revised:

1) A new subforum would be created, for the purpose of "In Search Of" and "Price Check" posts. This forum would not be eligible for iTrader feedback or Problem Swappers feedback.

2) A second new subforum for Canada Swap would be created. This could be for Carseat and Non-Carseat related items, but will have the same "rules" as the main Carseat Swap forum. Non carseat related items from Canadian members could still be posted in Swap-O-Rama if the member chooses.

3) The new ISO/PC forum and the existing Swap-O-Rama subforum would be opened to allow all members with Community Member access (30 days registered, 10 posts, 10 rep) to post new threads.

4) Moderation queues for all Swap forums would be lifted, allowing for instant posting. Problem threads or violations would rely on members reporting them or moderators catching them as part of their normal routine.

5) All registered and approved members who do not yet have Community Member access would still be allowed to reply to existing Swap threads, as they do now, in the main Carseat Swap forum, the new Canada Swap forum and the Swap-O-Rama forum. Members who have not yet gained Community Member access would not be allowed to post in the new Price Check/ISO forum, since transactions are discouraged there.

6) The only change to the main Carseat Swap forum would be the removal of moderation queues for new threads. Posting access and other guidelines would remain as they are.

7) Subscriptions would still include posting access in the main Carseat Swap forum, as per the current system.

I don't think Canada should be open to everyone if car seats may be sold there, I'd want the same rules as regular car seat swap, but other than that I approve.

That is reasonable. Would those from Canada interested in a Canada Swap forum please comment on this as well? Would there be enough volume to make it worthwhile if restricted like the main Carseat Swap forum?

Would it be too much to ask for a general Canadian swap and a sub-forum for moderated Canadian Carseat swap? I know we might getting into the territory of to many specialized subforums here.

This could be done in the future, if Swap-O-Rama traffic increases to where moving Canadian content would ease the number posts. As it is now, there are 2 weeks of posts visible on the first page at the default posts-per-page settings.

Also, for those who aren't aware, there is a "maple leaf" post icon for Canadian swap posts that can be used to flag them for those skimming the thread listings.

Also, I would not be opposed to the new Canada Swap forum being open to both Carseats and other items as well, in that even the combined number of threads would likely be reasonable.

I don't think there would be enough traffic on a Canadian non-car seat swap, but maybe I'm wrong. It would be nice to have a Canada car seat swap with the same rules as the regular one though, to have greater reliability in the quality of what you're getting.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong but, I'm not sure I understand #5...If member's replies are not allowed in the Price Check & ISO posts, are you saying that we'd need to pm someone to tell them if we know the going rate for an item? makes sense for ISO's just not sure how the price checks would be efficient since we'd never know if the OP got their answer....or should OP edit/delete their post then?

The other changes look great!

Thanks.

Sorry for the confusion, that post wasn't worded very clearly.

Community Members (30 days registered etc) and higher would be able to post new threads in the PC/ISO forum and also reply to existing threads in order to respond to inquiries. New members and members who had not yet reached community member status would not be able to post at all, as they can in the other swap forums in reply to existing threads.

I have updated the first post to clarify.

Any other comments? If no major objections, the changes could be implemented as early as next week for a trial.

The new Swap forums are now available.

New threads in all Swap forums are no longer moderated on a trial basis.

Members with Community Member Access may now post new threads in the Swap-O-Rama and ISO/PC forums on a trial basis.

Senior Community Members, Technicians and Subscribers in Canada may also post new threads in the Canada Swap forum (or the other Swap forums if they prefer).
