When does LL Bean have sales?

Do you have an outlet store anywhere near you? They are generally under $20 there, cheaper if they are embroidered and you have to use a seam ripper to take someone else's initials off.

Can you pretty much use a seam ripper to take embroidery off most items? Specifically a bean bag chair cover?

I don't know specifically about bean bag chairs. Can you access the back side of the embroidery? If not it will be difficult. Are they cloth or vinyl? I can see vinyl leaving a lot of holes.

Has anyone tried using a seem ripper to take embroidery off of a backpack? We don't live far from an outlet, or the regular store for that matter, and I've always been tempted to buy one but afraid I wouldn't be able to take it off

From what I've heard, if you work from the back and take your time it looks fine but not perfect after. If you are not ok with how it looks after get a couple small decorative patches from Michaels to put on the area.

Good thinking about the patches!

I think Phineasmom (is that her SN?) said she took a seam ripper to backpack and you can't tell.

I get coupon codes from them frequently? I got a 20% off in a catalog recently and I get email coupon codes. I also tend to buy when they have the spend $50 and get a $10 GC type deal. That is how I bought the kids backpacks. I bought dd1's full price, then Ds's had $10 off. I bought something else small that I needed with Ds's backpack to get the total back to $50 and dd2's backpack was $10ff (and on sale too!).
