Dancewear: Not sure what I'm looking for

Actually, I know exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure what it's called.

It's a leotard, but instead of the bottom being cut like a bathing suit, it's cut like shorts. Do you know what I'm talking about? Does it have a name?

Once I know what to google, I'm sure I'll find some, but if anyone has recommendations for who sells them inexpensively in girls' sizes, I'm open to recommendations.

It's a unitard. DD1 loves them for gymnastics. No wedgies. ;)

Oh, and we just got hers cheap at Meijer/Walmart, etc.

THANK YOU! I think I've heard the word "unitard" before but never thought about what it meant :p

I'm completely clueless about dance stuff, but DD is on a dance team, so I'm learning. I figured I'd watch a couple episodes of Dance Moms to see if I'd gain anything from it. That was a mistake...

Lol! You're looking for a biketard. A unitard has long legs and a biketard has shorts.

Target carries them, too. Eva preferred the short bottoms for a while, but she's back in regular dance leotards now.

DD's teacher suggested they wear tutus and stuff for ballet, and hot shorts/tops for jazz/tap. Something about my 4-year-old in booty shorts just isn't appealing to me, though...

At our studio, the girls wear tights and leotard for ballet. For all other styles of dance (jazz, tap, etc) they put jazz pants or shorts over top of the tights & leotard. Mainly because they don't have time to change between classes (gets them used to quick changes backstage).

Our classes are on different days. They can actually wear whatever they want, and they'll have "team" practice wear available also, but the teacher knows the girls like to wear "pretty" things of their own, too, so I figure it can't hurt to get something else.

I get a lot of gymnastics wear on ebay or in consignment shops. GK or Snowflake (?) can be found for pretty cheap and they last better than the Walmart & target stuff.
