We're going on vacation in a few weeks, and we're taking our 70ish lb labrador with us. She typically rides in the cargo area of our 07 Jeep Liberty, but I've realized recently that, in the event of an accident, that isn't very safe for our 4.5 month old.
What should we do? I found this: http://www.jeepworld.com/accessories/liberty/partition.htm
But it looks like it's just spring-loaded, like a tension rod. Does that seem safe enough to you? If not, do you know of any other cargo dividers that are safer?
I've read that a crate, strapped down in the cargo space, is a good option, but I'd rather not make the dog be all cramped up in one unless it's truly the only safe option. Obviously, the baby's safety comes first.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Edited to add: we measured the cargo space, and a crate big enough to house the dog won't fit in the back of the Jeep. So a crate isn't an option, unfortunately.
