This is the built in car seat in one of our units.

The seat it's in is facing the rear of the vehicle.

This is what it looks like opened up. You adjust the harness length at the hips.

Here are the instructions.

That said, I've never used it and I'm not sure anyone here ever has. This is the only unit out of 4 that has it.

Cool! Does the seat flip up, like out of the way? Which vehicle is this in? That is a huge step forward for RVs!

At Lifesavers a couple years ago I chatted with a guy whose company makes seats like that, but it also had an infant seat option. I forget the details, but it was awesome. They're for ambulances, but that would be great if they put them in RVs, too.

LOL It looks like it is trademarked. Maybe the inventor is named Hassel? Or they just thought it was cool to spell it differently. :p But nothing shows up on google, either way, except this thread! ;)

Very interesting. If you were to use it, would you then put them back on the stretcher once you arrive at your destination? I suppose it would work for transporting a kid that isn't super sick.

I wonder if our ambulances have anything like that. I've always seen kids just transported in their car seats or if we don't have them/they are too unstable to go in them, we just buckle them the best that we can onto the stretcher.

I think this seat is intended for transporting siblings, not the patient themselves.my DS was rushed to the hospital in January, now only did he have a massive seizure with a GCS of 2 ( he had a vp shunt malfunction which pressed on the pituitary causing SIAD-H, which caused hyponatrimia which caused the seizures), but I had to try to figure out how to safely transport my 4 yo to the hospital one hour away in the ambulance. Thankfully MIL was able to get to my house to watch her before the EMTs were ready to head to the hospital (she only lives 5 minutes away) so it wasn't an issue, but I can't imagine having to had to try to install a CR for her with all the chaos and urgency

That makes much more sense! Sorry to hear about your DS too, that must have been really scary.

Oh, an ambulance! LOL I thought that was behind the driver in an RV you'd rented! LOL This is just as cool though b/c if it's in an ambulance, the popularity may increase to other vehicles. I know they used to make them for mini-vans, haven't seen one like that in years though.

I thought it might be a jump seat, so the adult part of the seat flips out of the way, for an RV to make more space for walking. LOL

What do you mean? Like the adult seat? No.

It's in an ambulance. :)

I don't know about it catching on. It's not in our newest rig. That one has a regular adult seat with lap belt only. I've had to put a 4 yr old in a booster on that one. We were transporting her baby sister and it was either that or a lab belt only position facing sideways.

I used to have a van that had that when DS 2 was about 3 yrs old! It was his main ride. It had a harness adjuster like most of the 5 pt seats now though. So cool.
