FR85 or 90?

My cousin has ASD. He is 5 and close to outgrowing his current TF. I recommended they look at the Frontier for his next seat since they absolutely want to keep him harnessed. They are awesome with carseat safety. What will come next after the FR harness is outgrown? He's only 45lbs so weight won't ever be a problem. Would it be better to get the 85 since its taller in booster mode and they could add the 86Y? Would the extra 1/2" of the 90 be better and then something else altogether after that? The ease of installing the 90 is a definite plus but they will install the 85 correctly.

I'm not sure it's a full 1/2” difference. Many people are measuring less. I can measure for you later if you want. That said, lack of loss of height due to recline means a LOT more height in many seating positions on the 90!

I'm not sure how the 86-y works with a Frontier. I seem to remember something about it not working? Maybe someone else can chime in.

It's also possible that by the time he outgrows the Frontier, either he'll be ready for a booster (some kids with ASDs prefer a dedicated booster with close-in side wings to enclose them) or there will be other options on the market. If necessary there are special needs seats too, of course.
