Tethers???

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I do not think that I have anything to hook tethers to. Do all cars have them? Or are they only in newer model cars? Can I get an anchor installed?

I know my car does not have the latch system so I have to use the seat belts, but am wondering if there is still a way to use the tethers.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Tethers became mandatory in September 1999. Your 2000 must have been made before that. You can check for sure in your owners manual.

Yes, you can have top tether anchors retrofitted in many vehicles. I don't have the specific information or part numbers for Jeep, but I believe they are vehicles that can have tether anchors added. You can call your dealership and they should have the info. Hopefully someone with a copy of the LATCH manual will chime in with the part number for you.

DaimlerChrysler will install tether anchors in certain older model year Chrysler Group vehicles free of charge. Please have the dealer refer to Technical Service Bullegin 23-08-00 Rev. A for details on the provisions of this policy.

The '99-'00 Jeep Grand Cherokee can have tether anchors retrofitted in both outboard 2nd row seating positions. Part numbers:
05016869AA camel trim
05016870AA toupe trim
