Just a general cheering for the CPS community at large, and a pat on the back
I had a table at a Touch-A-Truck/safety fair this morning, and although I was way less popular than the neighboring bounce house () I got to talk to a number of parents. I don't get to do a lot with my certification, so it was really fun.
Anyways, I was pleased to find out how many parents were choosing best practice. I had one mom try to get me to give my blessing to move her 35lb 3.5yo into a booster & 1yo FFing, but aside from that, I had:
- A mom whose not-yet-2yo was outgrowing his RF seat, wanted recommendations of something longer lasting because they "wanted to go longer,"
- A mom whose 2.5yo was still RF, and she wanted to know when she could turn her FF (she was receptive to leaving her RF a while longer,)
- A grandparent whose not-yet-1yo was outgrowing her infant seat by weight, and knew that she needed to move to a RF seat and stay RF for a while
- A set of parents whose 4yos were still harnessed, and planned to stay that way for quite a while yet (and was very interested in info on switching to seatbelt install)
- A Mom whose 3, 4, and 7yos were still harnessed, and 9yo was in a HBB
- A mom who wanted to convince Dad their 8yo still needed a booster
A couple of those parents seemed to have researched, but for most of them, it seemed to be "just what you do." There was other education done, for those parents and others... but with that many coming to me already making "best practice" choices I definitely felt like it was forward momentum. Word IS getting out there... don't be so anxious to move the kiddos to the next stage!
