For the middle of the middle row in my suburban.
Currently DS is in a FR85. I like it, he likes it, but I have a couple of gripes.
First, its so wide that it makes Abi sit off center in her seat so her head isn't centered on the headrest. She still has head support but it drives my OCD nuts. Secondly, whenever I slide the seat behind the passenger forward to access the 3rd row (which has to be done whenever we all ride together), it catches on that little red clip that holds the FR85's cover on. One of these days it's going to break and I will not be happy. It could also cut into my leather seat on my truck, but I'd be more upset about the FR getting messed up. :spit:
I've thought about getting a Harmony Defender or a FR90 to go in that spot. DS is only 40 lbs so he doesn't really need the weight limit on the FR. However, he will need to stay harnessed in that spot until the whole family doesn't ride together. I don't have enough shoulder belts for everyone otherwise. My oldest is 15 1/2 and has his learner's permit so it's just a matter of time before he has his license and can drive himself and another kid or two, but I'd like to have the option of taking 1 vehicle places to save on gas.
I'm nervous about the HD360 because of the short crotch strap. I know you can get a longer one, but it doesn't seem that much longer. Also, I'm kind of a Britax snob. I've tried lots and lots of seats and I always go back to my Britax seats for the padding and fit an finish. The kids prefer their Britax seats over their less expensive seats as well for comfort.
But then again we'll be flying in July and I could use the HD360 for that. I was gonna get him a folding booster, but I'm not sure he's ready for that. There would be an adult to sit next to him and keep him in position.
What do ya think? New seat or use what I've got? If a new seat, which one and what's your logic?
