Over the weekend DH, DS, and I were walking back to our car from church. Our church offers a shuttle service to the farther parking lot b/c it is across the street and not everyone is willing to walk the distance. DH wanted to take the shuttle with DS not in a car seat. I refused to but DH thought I was pretty unreasonable. The ride in the shuttle would have been through the close parking lot and then about 1/2 of a block on the road (going very slowly) and then the drive through the other parking lot to the drop off area. Was I being unreasonable? Without DS with us we would have walked for a bit of exercise. We didn't have our stroller with us and had to walk down a steep hill; however, I still didn't want to risk it.

Do you go on a main road at all?

I had the same issue a few months ago. I was going to look at a wedding site (my Best Friend is getting married) and they take you on a shuttle from the main entrance back through the golf course and to the wedding site. I orginally was going to bring Ryan's carseat but I asked on this board (or another carseat board I post on - can't remember) and the consensus was it wasn't a big deal since the shuttle was only going 5-10mph. In the end I just sat him next to me on the seat (holding him of course) and he was fine. I was nervous but the only other traffic we encountered was a few golf carts. If we were going on a main road though I would have for sure wanted his carseat.

A shuttle is a bus that travels in a loop from one place to another, usually to transfer people to and from a remote parking location.

Well depends on how big it is. The shuttle we took in Vegas was like a small/med bus...dd did not use a seat and I thought it was okay...and we were going from the Rio to The strip so we were in traffic and they drive nuts

If it is just a mini little bus thing then to me that is just like a van.

We would have been on a main road for about 1/2 of a block. We would have been going very slowly though b/c church had just let out and lots of people are trying to merge onto the road. The shuttle was an econoline van in the front with a bigger shuttle part on the back.

Once I might do it- but not make a habit of it (like if it was pouring rain or lightning) I've taken my son on a NYC Bus when he was 3 and 4, but that was a LONNNNNNG time ago. I'd be more worried if it were more than a half a block- you could also get run over by a car crossing the street....:twocents:

I have let my kids ride on the shuttle bus at the airport, and I would be comfortable with my kids ridding a shuttle bus in a church parking lot. If it was a nice day outside, I probably would try to walk just because walking is good for everyone. If it was raining though or my feet really hurt, the shuttle bus would be a great option for me and the kids.

On the shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel for Lifesavers there were a bunch of us who pretty much realized at once that we were all bound for the conference when five women all started looking for the seatbelts at the same time....
