Question cleaning puke off straps

My two year old nanny girl threw up in the myride. Her jacket caught most of it but the straps got some too. I wiped them down with a wet cloth but I can still see puke on the harness. It doesn't seem to want to come off. What now?

A wet (with water) toothbrush works great for getting the sticky stuff off. And then wiping with a washcloth after.

Sorry you're dealing with the mess.

I was just going to say toothbrush as well. I had to deal with this after DS2 puked all over his Roundabout. It was awful. I wiped with washcloth, scrubbed with a toothbrush, and then wiped again.

Did the toothbrush and its a lot cleaner. How do I get it to stop smelling like puke? It makes the car smell

Putting it in the sun might be your best bet. Wipe it down first so it's a little damp. Not sure if lemon juice is OK for harnesses, maybe sprinkle with baking powder?

Maybe a baking soda paste (baking soda mixed with a little water)? You could scrub it in with the toothbrush, then wipe off.

The instructions say only water and mild soap. I'm fine with sun since it sits in the sun all day in the car. It only got on the straps and chest clip Clip is clean but the plastic is holding the scent. I think I'll try sun and go from there. Ugh

The sun is not cooperating with my plans. Oh well. What is mild soap? Like, what makes a soap mild vs. not? Mild soap seems kind of open ended...

I used california baby's baby wash on ours at one point and it got the smell out. I considered that to be mild, but since there doesn't seem to be an actual definition of mild I'm not sure if it was what the manufacturer had in mind. It did get the smell out, though! I diluted it in water, but it's been so long I don't remember how much water. Sorry, that's probably not extremely helpful!

Actually it is helpful! I read in another thread that Graco costumer service was ok with baby soap so I bought some baby wash and diluted it with water and toothbrushed/wiped the straps. After reading that similar treatment got the smell off your straps I have hope for mine!

Our daughter's skin was so sensitive as a baby that was the only thing that didn't seem to cause her to have a major rash. I figured if it was mild enough for her it was mild enough for the straps when diluted! Hope you get that smell out!

i recently had to deal with this as well.... i wiped off everything with baby wipes, then used water and a tooth brush to get the rest..... then i laid them in the sun for a few hours (as well as the rest of the car seat) and all was well. it was a vile mess

Thanks everyone! I didn't really wipe the straps with baby wipes although in the process of cleaning off the kiddo I'm sure the baby wipes touched the straps. It smelled so much better last night after the baby wash. I no longer want to puke more on it when I smell it so hopefully it continues to improve with time and sun.
