Nextfit and Newborns

I read a short 'review' from a mama who tried this seat out with her newborn (maybe she's a member here, too?) and this is what she had to say:

Tried my newborn in a NextFit at Target yesterday - I have to say, I'm pretty unimpressed. She came to the bottom harness slots fine, but the harness covers are a BEAR to get around a newborn. In addition to being huge, they are grippy on the back, and trying to get them positioned over her shoulders was extremely difficult. The crotch buckle is also wicked short with the infant insert, and trying to buckle that was a pain as well. Obviously - she was not a fan of all the messing around I had to do just to get her buckled.

I would like confirmation one way or another on her points... Thanks so much!!

I tried a 3 day old newborn in it. Yes, the harness covers are grippy, yes they are bulky, yes the crotch strap is short with the insert.... However, I loosened the straps to put him in and take him out. Smooth as butter. With the harness loosened, it wasn't hard at all to buckle it. I tightened it before doing the chest clip and it was not an issue. It wasn't any more difficult that using a Coccoro, easier even because there isn't a puzzle buckle.

The pros are that it supported him very well. The harness pads actually aid in neck support and made him feel very cozy. The hip straps are nice and low on the thigh and that is very very nice.

I was very impressed. If I didn't prefer to use the seatbelt and semi-despise having to use a lockoff with a pre-crash locked belt, I'd own one if I was having another and wanting a birth-to-booster convertible.

Thank you for the response. I will definitely have to loosen and tighten the harness each time. I'm trying to get out of the mindset of our radian tightening system. That's what *I* despise. lol.

Thanks again :) We'll likely go with this seat for our newbie this summer.

Thanks for the thread. I was kind of wondering if the harness covers would be too long on a newborn. I usually like to take them off for small babies.
