Oh, that makes me sick. :( And they haven't found the person(s) who caused this mess, either. I wonder how he feels, knowing how he's impacted such a little boy's life.

I'm curious how old, exactly, the boy is, and of course -- whether he was FF or RF.

Wow. That's a significant amount of idiocy, and an innocent little boy will have lifelong effects from it. Extra heartbreaking since it was completely preventable. :(

I am a huge proponent of RFing being a "magic bullet" in many types of crashes, but I would say the jury is out on this one. It sounds like it was initially a rear-ender, and in my understanding RF would likely not have prevented the issue. However, it sounds like it was a rear impact followed by a side-impact, which is type of crash in which RF gives the greatest benefit, so it really depends on where in the crash sequence his injury occurred. Of course, we'll never know, but I'm not as inclined to jump to "RFing would have prevented it" as I would in other types of crashes. Certainly, though, it may have (and I doubt it would have hurt.)

That was what I was thinking, too. They were rear ended by a semi. That's a lot of force. :(

So was Chely. I understand that all accidents are different but RF turned out to be safer for them when they were rear ended by a semi.

If you knew you were going to be rear ended by a semi tomorrow, there was absolutely nothing you could do to prevent it...would you RF or FF your 2 year old? It's a no brainer to me.
