Buy a Regent on sale for BIG 3 year old?

Avi is currently in a MA in his mom's car and in a DC in my car. The DC is either put in as needed, or it stays in my car for a few weeks at a time unless I need the seat. The MA is installed in his mom's car and only taken out if she needs to fold the seat down to transport something. With the Regent being on sale now would it be a good idea to get one for his mom's car? I am planning on keeping him in the DC for as long as possible in my car, because I take the seat in and out so much. Would you move a *almost* 3 year old to a Regent if he still fit in his MA/DC?

I have a pic in my siggy of how he fit in the DC a few weeks ago, and I think he has grown since them, I am planning on taking more pics tomorrow. The pic is an up close of how much room he has before he reaches the top harness slot, sorry he was not in the mood for yet another carseat pic :)

ETA:
I sent avi's mother an email telling her how the Regent does not go on sale often, bla bla bla, and how the Regent would be the best seat for him. She trusts me because I obviously am very passionate about Avi's safety. She said that she emailed her mother and told her what I said so that she will help pay for the seat. I am planning on taking him to a store today to try out the Regent so that I can see how he fits, and ask him what color he wants. With our luck he will insist on the Madison. Thanks for all the helpful comments, and I will be sure to post pics when Avi's new seat comes.

Holy cow - all the times I've admired his curls in your siggy and never realized he's only two! It looks like he's the same size as my (petite) 7 year old:

(Is this a great comparison or what? Two healthy, happy kids, with TOTALLY DIFFERENT growth patterns! :D )

Here's a pic of my dd in her Husky, for comparison. I think your nephew would fit well and it would give him more time in a harnessed seat, even though I'd normally say it's a bit big for an almost-three-old.

He is tall for being not quite 3yrs old, and looking at the picture in your signature, he may very well outgrow the seats before he's 5yrs old.

How long do you want to keep him harnessed for?

Given his height for his age, I think you would get good use out of the Regent. There's a pretty good likelihood he'll outgrow the MA/DC before he's mature enough for a booster...
Then again, growth patterns can be so hard to predict, and who knows what may be on the market in another year or two...

So I guess I'm not much help. If you think you're going to end up with a Regent anyways, you might as well take advantage of the sale. :twocents:

(One other thought I just had, how comfy is he widthwise in his current seats? Are his shoulders squished at all? He may be more comfortable in a Regent if that's the case... but the Regent isn't going to give him as much support for sleeping.)

Knowing how big Avi is, I'd definitly get a Regent while they are on sale, no telling how much more time he's going to get out of the MA or DC. He may not make it until the sale next year.

I would get the Regent now. My daughter fit like that in her MA a little less than a year before she outgrew it, and she was almost four! Knowing how young he is, I'd bet money he won't make it until next year's sale.

And I thought my dd1 was big! She was about that size at almost 4! Right now, at 4 years 4 months, she's 43 lbs 43 in and she fits her Regent perfectly. I'd say go for it!

The way I look at the Regent, it will likely be outgrown around 9 years old (give or take a little), but probably earlier for him, so you would get full use out of it getting it at this age (3+6 year life). So as long as he isn't swallowed hole by it, I think now would be a great time to get it to get the most use out of it...I personally wouldn't want to wait much longer.

My Jackson fits the Marathon like that ( 30 months, 34 lbs, 40 ins) and he fits the Regent great. I would defiantly get one on sale.

We have a Como, Radian, and Regent and the Regent is our favorite.

Yep, I'd get the Regent, especially with the great sale. He'll get lots of use out of it, and I wouldn't be at all uncomfortable with him riding in it instead of a convertible. Someone on another thread made a comment about the Regent offering a fair amount of SIP (even though it's not been tested and rated for TSIP), because the shell is so wide and would possibly be more protective in a side impact collision in a vehicle w/no side curtain air bags. He's an absolutely gorgeous little boy!! :)
