2004 Dodge Neon: need a locking clip or not?

Hi all, my in-laws drive a 2004 Dodge Neon and will be driving my infant daughter around a bit while babysitting. She's in her brother's original Graco Snugride (not expired, no accidents) and they will be putting it in their car without the base.

Do they need to use the locking clip in that car? I'm finding conflicting information. It's also really difficult to use the locking clip, so if they don't need it, I'd rather them not use it because I'm afraid of them making the seat too loose.

No, they should not need the locking clip. :)

Make sure you go over the manual instructions for how to install the seat without the base. You might want to provide them with a pool noodle to help keep the recline at the correct angle.

Here's a page on locking clips that goes over use of them but the first part is all about how belts lock, and how you can test for the different types of locking, and tips to make them stay without a locking clip: http://www.carseatsite.com/lockingclips.htm

The most likely locking mechanism to find in a Dodge of that era is lightweight locking latch plates.
