Question 07 Corolla and Evenflo Amp HBB

Hi all!

I am wondering about a problem I am having with my SD's booster. She's 6, and quite lengthy in the torso (18.5 in and growing FAST) so she's in a HBB. We got a new-to-us 07 Corolla, and so we got her this seat. She loves her seat. The problem is the belt path clip. The opening of the clip is on the side facing the door, not the bottom like I have seen on other seats. Subsequently, the belt is constantly sliding OUT of the belt path. It may be that I have the back too high, but I'll need to check when she's here again. She moves around a lot too, which doesn't help. I've talked about how she needs to sit well in the seat. Unfortunately, she is only 6, and the only 5p that she'd fit in at this point is really far out of our price range. So is it her wiggles or the design of the belt path? Could it just be that the back is in the wrong place?

I had another person on another forum tell me my car wasn't compatible with the seat, but she refused to explain herself. This is a pretty common booster (I got it at WalMart) and a VERY common car, so I really wasn't sure she was right. Anyone that can shed light on that matter would be great.

I can't comment on this exact seat in this exact car, but what the other poster mentioned as "incompatible"... Some boosters have this problem in certain cars, where the belt guide on the booster just doesn't work with the seatbelt's geometry and the seatbelt ends up falling out of the guide. I would check the back height and the seatbelt, but it may very well be incompatible. I'm uncertain whether Evenflo allows you to bypass the guide, but with a wiggly 6 year old, I'd be inclined to try another booster (and one with bigger headwings/side impact protection, as it will then be harder for her to wiggle out of place.)

If I remember correctly, the Amp has a huge weird gap between the vehicle seat and the booster due to the shape of the outboard seat. This may be what the person on the other board was referring to.

I took a look because of the mentioned gap, and I think I figured out part of the problem. The headrest in the backseat sticks out WAY over the top and pushes the back of the booster forward. It's making the back of the booster seat not line up with the back of the car seat. Can the headrest be removed? I don't know if that's ok or not, but I think it might fix the problem. I think I'll have a problem with any backed booster with how it sticks out.

There are boosters that allow a gap, and there are boosters that may be more suited to that seat shape. Have you tried moving the car's headrest up and down to see if that helps at all? I will say that there are also boosters with different positioning of the belt guide that may help a lot.
