Question 3 across, Lexus RX400h

Hi: We drive a Lexus 400h, and we have a very tall 3 year old son in a forward facing Britax Boulevard, seated in the middle of the back seat. We're now pregnant with twins and we will need to get 3 across in our current vehicle. Two quick questions:

1) Are there any infant seats I could put outboard left and right, keeping our Britax Boulevard in the center for my son? My son will be 3.5 years old when the twins arrive. This seems like it might be the easiest configuration for loading everyone?

2) If the answer to #1 is "no", which I'm guessing it might be, then what seat could I buy for my son so he can stay in the middle? I have an infant seat from when he was a baby (Chico Key Fit 30) that I'd like to use rear facing for at least one of the twins. Would a Radian in the center, with two chicos on either side work? Would that be our best option?

Appreciate any advice you might have! Thank you in advance to anyone who has time to post!

Hi there, welcome to car-seat.org and congrats on your twins! :D

Have you checked out our 'Successful 3 Across Thread'?

You might find some suggestions there for 3 acrosses with a Boulevard (BLVD) and 2 infant seats.

I would suggest being open to a configuration with the BLVD on one side. Remember that there will be a base installed on either side of the seat in the middle, so no place to sit or kneel to buckled your ds. You might find it's easier to lean across to the middle to place an infant carrier. Just a thought.

Radians *are* pretty narrow, and so they are helpful with 3 across situations. However, there can be install issues in some vehicles. This thread might be helpful to see if there is a known issue with your car.

Ultimately, sometimes you just have to try some seats out. If you need to try a seat, be sure you buy from a brick and mortar store that will let you return or from an online retailer with free returns.
