I was on their site and they had instruction manuels for the BV and MA with and without the energy absorbing versa tether? What's the difference?

One is the normal tether, one will rip apart in a crash to a certain extent, lengthening it by about two inches after the initial impact (jerk, stop a little, open, jerk some more, stop; versus just jerk stop completely). Nice in theory, not so much in practice. I had one of the rip stop tethers... *I* ripped it putting it in. It doesn't really offer much over the other tether... and I chose to forego the 'advanced' tether in favor of the old lock offs, since I couldn't have both, and having lockoffs that actually worked was more important to me than a safety feature that I can completely destroy by tightening the tether.

Nope

It's extra stitching in the tether that rips out in a crash. That helps slow down deceleration and prevents too much energy from transferring into the kiddo.

Lots of cars have this system on their seatbelts...it's a little bit of webbing stitched in a loop, that will rip out in a crash, helping manage crash forces, and leave a little tag out that says 'replace this seatbelt' if it's been in a crash. If a Britax has been in a crash, you see the red stitching :)

So would my 2006 BV's have it???

Yeah, they phased them in, I remember seeing them for the first time at Lifesavers this year, and was told they were in some seats already, all seats later...something like that...

I knew you knew, Amber, you HAD to know...

for those who have them- does it look like the picture on page 25 of the latest manual?

I don't think I have it. My DOM is June 2007, but it doesn't look anything like that picture.

Mine looks pretty much like that on my boulevard.

Sorry the pictures are dark.

My late in the model year, 2006 Boulevard does NOT have it.

So bizzar.

If you are interested, I called Britax about the tether a few months ago.

I asked them if they could send me an engergy absorbing tether for my Marathon. She told me that the Marathons don't come with energy absorbing tethers (she told me this after she put me on hold to ask someone else). I know this contradicts others that say their Marathons do have them....it also contradicts their own manual that they have posted online that says that i does...

Anyway, the Rep at britax said that if you have a boulevard with an old style tether and want an energy absorbing tether instead, you can order one and just replace it yourself on the seat.

If you are interested in that, I'd call britax and see if they are still standing on that position.

This interests me as well. I recently bought an Erin Marathon. I had it and my FPSVD both in the house to switch covers (Erin to FP - Allstar Tan to MA - shhhhhh ;) ). The manual showed a picture of a big white sticker on the top back of the seat identifying the new energy absorbing tether. I had no sticker on my MA and the tether on the MA looked EXACTLY like the tether on the FPSVD .

I'm starting to wonder if that's why the Portland and Erin ones are so inexpensive right now. I ordered the Portland for Albee baby in June. It was only 3 weeks old when I got it, but definitely does not have the energy absorbing tether.
