car seat weight limit changes???

I posted a question about the Chicco Nextfit vs Graco mysize/size4me/headwise on the FB page of someone who is supposed to be a bit of a baby gear expert and a car seat tech. In part of his response he said "there will also be changes to weight limits of car seats soon, so that mysize70 will no longer be "70"'.

I know that there are new standards in the works regarding latch and total weight of seat and child that will likely result in seats sticking in the 40lb rfing weight range, but are there other regulations in the works that would limit FFing seat weights the way his response suggests? Anyone know what it is that he is referring to?

The only changes I know about have to do with the 2014 LATCH standards. I don't know anything about any changes to harness weight limits.

I'd contact Graco, but LATCH has nothing to do with the upper weight limit of the seat. Unless Graco is pushing the weight limit UP, I wouldn't worry.

But given that it's the My Size 70 and Size4Me 70 and Headwise 70, they seem pretty firm on the 70.

Yeah, the LATCH changes shouldn't affect the weight rating of the seats--just the weight LATCH can be used to. You'll be able to install with a seatbelt to 70 lbs.

I know who you're talking about, I didn't know he was a tech, I never heard him say that before, but I might have simply missed that info. His response to your question was kind of confusing, and he admitted to never playing with the graco seats, so he may have just heard some general statement. I don't think I'd get too worked up about it

I wasn't really worked up, just confused...and a little worried that some bureaucrat somewhere decided that there should be a max limit to weight that car seats can hold. I started trying to figure out how the heck this would impact all of combo seats like the Frontier adn nautilus that so many people rely on.

*I was kind of bummed that he hadn't even touched a Graco and that gives me a new perspective on his advice (already taken with a grain of salt). I knew he gravitated towards high end, high dollar, but bummer that other stuff doesn't even get looked at. :/
