Question Frontier belly pad, required?

So that pad that is on the crotch buckle of my new Frontier made it difficult for me to buckle and nearly impossible for DH and Grandma. However, it recently came off as my ODS was getting/sliding out of his seat.

Do I have to put it back on? Since it came off ODS has actually started trying to buckle himself in, which is nice because that means he can buckle himself while I'm buckling YDS. Other wise we are loving this seat :)

My ODS has some fine motor skill issues, so this is a HUGE step for us. Right now it takes both his hands on the harness and an adult holding the crotch buckle for him to do it and sometimes some more help from the adult. But he's getting it and more importantly to me, he's trying :)

Thank you.
