Maestro almost outgrown by 3 year old

I participated in a car seat check this past weekend. One car I did had a girl turning 3 in a week. They arrived in an old dorel with a 40lb harness limit. Child was 39.5" and 42lb (clothed). We weighed and measured car side.
We provided a maestro to the family and the girl was already on the top slots!!!!

I looked at the car seat data here and it said top slots are 18". The girls shoulders were above the second to top slots already. She has about .5-.75" before they will be AT the top slots. So she may outgrow the harness within a year?

Holy huge preschooler lol it was funny because she didn't seem that "big" until she was in the seat.

Does this seem right that the maestro may be outgrown so soon?

I wish we could have given a higher harnessing seat!

My ds3 is almost 4 and about to outgrow the maestro by both height and weight. It's a good seat for a small to average child, which none of my boys are.

Wow, that is a big preschooler! My 4.5 yr old has 1.5 slots left and 15 more pounds to grow before she is out of her Maestro. Hopefully that little girl is mature enough to go to a booster!

I hope! I educated mom on when the harness would be outgrown and showed her how to use the seat in booster mode, which already fit the girl well. I let the mom know that a higher harnessing seat would really be beneficial to them but I'm not sure they have the means to buy one.

It may take her a whole year to grow that half to whole inch in the torso. Many times, they do a lot of growth in their legs, which won't change her seated height. At least if she makes it to 4 harnessed and then till 5 or 6 in it as a booster, she will be much safer than she was before. After that, it's not the worst thing in the world if she ends up riding in a $30 Cosco Pronto from the program or a $10 backless. Good that she has the right seat, right now.
