pics of older kids in hbb monterey

I've started thinking about getting DS a monterey, he's in a vivo, but he looks like he's starting to get too big for it. He has spina bifida and autism, he likes the HBB because it supports his back better, and he likes the feeling of being surrounded by the wings. He definitely fits in it as far as safety, but he just looks like he's starting to get uncomfortable in it. He's 4'3" 73lbs, 16.76" torso height, 26" overall seated height (I measured with his back against the wall, legs straight out (he physically can't sit criss cross applesauce). He's all legs, so I want something with a deep seat pan, and I think the monterey is pretty deep, right?
I thought I also read that the side wings are adjustable by width, is that accurate?

anyway, does anyone mind sharing pics of their older (9+year olds,, or kids with similar stats to DS) in a monterey? I want to make sure he's going to fit in it for several years. any suggestions for other seats that are tall, have deep seat pans, large side and head wings? If so pics of kids in those seats would be nice too.

am I ridiculous for thinking I can keep him in a HBB til he 5 steps (which I have a feeling wont be for several years)? Should I just try the santa fe?
thanks!
ps. I probably should have put this in the general car seat forum, sorry

I don't have pics (not my kids) but I have used hbb Montereys with big 8yos, 9yos, and 10yos and they have all found it comfortable. It is my magical sleeping seat, lol.

Eta: the top belt guide is something like 22" so it would last a while. The sides are significant and the seat pan gets deeper once the back is off so it's great for growing. And yes, the side wings adjust out. Hopefully someone can post pics for you! :)

My 10 year old rides in a Monterey. I don't have a pic but he is about 4' 4" and 74 pounds. I'm not sure about his torso height. He still has a couple of clicks for the headrest though. He says it's more comfy than his sister's Britax Frontier as a booster or the Britax Regent he was riding in before. He sleeps in it all the time.

My 12yo (now 95lbs and over 5ft) can still fit in a Monterey, even though he 5 steps nicely. The belt fit is better with the seatbelt alone now, but he rode in it until he was 11 in his grandfather's car.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Monterey is that it does require vehicle head support even in high back mode.

our current car doesn't have headrests (04 malibu classic), but DS has a good 5" of seatback until the top of his ears are even with the top of the vehicle seat back, and we're planning to get a new car this summer (which I"m making sure it will have adjustable headrests). The vehicle seat support only needs to be to the top of the child's ears right? not the top of the booster head rest?

That is correct, the vehicle seat back or head restraint must reach the tips of the child's ears.

I know there was an issue with the belt guides, I thought I had read diono has changed the guides. Is there a way to ensure I get a seat with the new guides? Can I contact diono and get a free set of new guides if the one I get has the old ones?

thanks so much! She's almost exactly my son's stats. Are sides at their widest in these pics? It looks like a great fit now, just thinking about a few years down the road

No they are not at the widest. She is very broad. I tried her in the probooster and she could not sit with her arms to her side. I put the Montery on the full width and she had 2 of my fingers widths on either side.

awesome! I've been bouncing back and forth between the probooster (since we love his vivo so much) and the monterey.

thank you, you gave me exactly what I was looking for. BTW, DD is beautiful!

Just remember to look for the gray belt guide. It is the newest and works awesome!

good to know! was there a DOM that they switched to the gray guide? If so I could ask what the DOM is before ordering, of course there's not guarantee that that's the DOM I'll actually receive

If you get a Monterey and the guides don't work for you, call Diono. :)

Also know that even the new guides don't work for every vehicle.
