Caleb has to be middle center in my suburban. The rest of the kids need the shoulder harnesses. It's lap belt only with no way to retrofit a tether. The boy is 5 years old, 41" and 41 lbs.

The way I see it, I have two options. I can keep him harnessed in a FR 85 until he outgrows it. Hopefully the oldest will be driving by then so I'll have another shoulder belt spot open up and Caleb will be able to use that. Or I can spend the big bucks and import a RFing seat for the kid instead of having him in an untethered FFing seat.

Would you import or call the FR 85 untethered good enough since that's the only legal option?
