Question Room for adult in back seat between car seats?

My wife and I have newborn twin girls and we currently have two car seats installed in her 2009 Corolla. Although the car seats in the Corolla have been working out, our main concern is that neither her or I can sit in the middle of the back seat to watch the girls while the other person is driving (just in case). Our other car is an 2010 Accord with the lease expiring this May so our initial thought was to get an CR-V (costwise it is preferable to a Pilot) but we don't know if we will encounter the same issue of one of us being able to sit in between the two car seats.

Does any one know if CR-V back seat can fit one adult somewhat comfortably in between two car seats? Or does any one have recommendations on other SUVs that may work for us (Escape, Explorer, etc.)? We have a small dog too so an SUV is preferred over a larger wider sedan. Thanks!

1. What seats are the girls in now? Would it be possible to get narrower seats to allow more room for the adult in between them?

2. Are you looking at new or used? Planning any additional children in the future? (I know this might be the farthest thing from your minds, right now :p) I would probably suggest a Pilot over a CR-V if you are planning for more children. If you buy a couple of years older, you may be able to get a Pilot for around the same as the CR-V.

3. Do you need 4wd? If not, then an Odyssey or Sienna might be another good family friendly option.

Are you married to having both seats outboard? I sit with my two boys, but I have their seats side-by-side with my youngest in the middle. We drive a Kia Rondo; it's sedan-sized and I'm large.
