Are Britax HUGS no longer required forward facing?

Is it safe to remove the HUGS Chest Pads for forward-facing use?

In our recently announced recall campaign involving HUGS chest pads with SafeCell Technology on select Boulevard 70-G3, Pavilion 70-G3 and Advocate 70-G3 convertible car seats, we have indicated that the HUGS chest pads can be removed and the car seat safely used until replacement pads are received for both rear and forward facing use. Current user guide instructions for these same convertible child seats require the use of HUGS chest pads for forward-facing installations. BRITAX has tested these child seats forward-facing without the HUGS chest pads, however, and has confirmed that these child seats can be safely used without the HUGS pads. The HUGS pads do enhance the performance of the child seats and for this reason Britax still strongly recommends that HUGS pads be used whenever possible.

Well, it would only apply to the G3, and I'd never tell a parent they could take them off but if they'd already lost them I guess I'd now say it's ok to use while waiting for a replacement to come.

I think they're just saying that you can temporarily take them off while waiting for your replacements because it's better than people not using their seats. I don't think this means they're not mandatory for forward facing under normal use.

So they tested them and they passed, right? Not that I'm suggesting anyone not use the HUGS, but that's what that means, right? I've read in the past that their seats don't pass without HUGS. How do we know that? (sincerely curious)

Their original seats required them because they didn't pass over a certain weight without them. The added SafeCell technology undoubtedly helps the new seats pass without them. But obviously the numbers are BETTER with which is why they still want them used.

So I'm guessing the RA50 can be sold without them since it only goes to 50 lbs?

That makes me feel better because when I had my DD FFing in a classic convertible, she wasn't even 40 pounds. If the new Frontier 90 really has the safe cell technology, I'm going to have a hard time resisting for our small back seat.
