Just for fun at target...

I sat DS (3 and 4 months but big) in all the seats. I was just eyeballing, but it seemed like he'd outgrown a lot of the convertibles (FFing) by shoulder straps -- only the complete air, mysize70, and possibly an evenflo looked like they still had slots above his shoulders. I was most surprised by the marathon -- I thought its straps were the same as the radians, but he is below the top slots of the radian.

I hope our next child is a peanut so I can pick whatever seat I want.

Often kids will gain or lose room in a seat once it's installed in a car and they're all strapped in. Also, the inches measurement on a harness height doesn't always directly translate to when it will be outgrown - two seats with the same measurement are often outgrown at different times.

The marathon at Target is the "classic" marathon, which has slightly lower top straps than the Marathon 70, available everywhere else.

Yeah, ok. I knew it wasn't the same as installing in the car, and in some cases he was even sitting on the buckle, which would raise him a little less than an inch. But his head was over the shell in many cases, and his shoulders above the top straps -- not just near/at them, and I was just shocked at how short some of the seats appeared. He isn't even 4.
