Non slip mats vs. Britax base?

If rubberized mats can disguise a loose install, can't the rubberized Britax bases do the same? How can I confidently tell if a Britax convertible is properly installed?

I've wondered the same thing. I worry about the sides of our captain's chairs too since they are raised up around a base.

I'm pretty sure if you push the base gently with your weak hand and it moves less than an inch at the belt path, it's in well, I don't think the bottom is SO grippy it would give the false sense of security, honestly. Then again, I've never personally seen a rubber mat make a bad install seem good, either, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about

I've never used a rubber shelf liner for install but I've seen it on a shelf...the base of the Britax is not as sticky.

I've never found the rubber strip on the bottom of my britaxes to give a false sense of proper install.
I have leather in all vehicles, and if I pull/push on the seat at the belt path with the force of a firm handshake, I can tell if its not tight enough, it will certainly move. IME the rubber doesn't provide adequate friction to overcome the normal amount of force used to check installs.
