While on one hand, I like that they focused on their FF technologies and didn't try to jam RF into the mix as an afterthought, I'm kind of worried with a 20# min FF seat being out there. At least with a convertible a parent has the opportunity to turn a little one around if they hear about RF longer and no new seat to buy (which may dissuade them from flipping back to RF). On the other hand (is that my third hand? :p), for those that are FF young regardless, maybe better to be doing that in one of the seats with the new fancy FF technology...ya I'm torn.

Interesting features... BIG price point. And I couldn't help but notice the seat's weight (30#) means that in a car that is going with the 65# LATCH weight limit, you'll have to stop using that awesome rigid LATCH when a kid weighs just 35#.

So, who is going to order it???

Well, I didn't know this was coming... Since i couldnt justfy the foonf for ds because of its 43" RFing height limit, maybe I can get this instead! Someone find out the harness heights! :)

Yeah that part would be sucky. I loooovveeeee rigid latch but my teeny tiny barely turned 4 year old is like 35 lbs clothed and shod. And god only knows if I'd be able to get a good install with the seat belt.

If you're looking for a RF seat, this one is FF only.

No, I saw that. I'm just saying I can't justify the foonf for DS so we're stuck FFing him when he outgrows the radian (soon) -- maybe I can justify a fancy-dancy new FFing seat instead.

Just wondering -- what is a FFing only seat called? Not a combination, since that switches to booster, right?

Found this when I did a google search:

"New StratoFIX™ Car Seat Offers Unprecedented Level of Protection
Innovative patented safety features provide the next generation of safety in child car seats

Puyallup, WA – October 12, 2012 – Diono® is proud to introduce the revolutionary StratoFIX™, the next generation of child car seats. Two patented safety features work together, creating a new standard of safety for children on the go.

StratoFIX™ safety innovation starts with Active Deceleration System™, which works by rotating a child away from the direction of crash forces in the event of an accident. The second feature, Accident Indication System™, monitors if the seat has been in an accident by displaying at all times a clear indicator if the seat is safe to use. Together they provide a level of protection previously unavailable for your child. StratoFIX™ was designed to meet global safety standards with the highest weight limits of 25 kg (Europe) and 80 lb (North America).

The StratoFIX™ includes an impressive range of other safety, ease of use and comfort features, including a 5-point harness system and deep sidewalls with double layers of energy absorbing foam creating Total Side Impact Protection™. For easy and secure installation, StratoFIX™ uses a rigid ISOFIX system which adjusts and releases with a single button, plus dual indicators providing visual confirmation that your seat is securely connected. Five recline positions, including a sleep position, can be adjusted while your child is still in the seat plus an easy-off machine washable cover.

"It’s not often we have the privilege of raising the bar in such a vital area as child safety," said Diono® President, Brad Keller. "The synergy of our two patented safety systems makes StratoFIX™ an important advancement for the child safety seat industry, as well as a welcome protector for kids all over the world.”

StratoFIX™ comes in two popular colors: Midnight, in black velour with black microfiber trim, and Shadow, which features black micro-denier plaid nylon with black velour trim. It will be available nationwide at $349.99 MSRP."
