Flying with foonf

Hey all, I am on my iPhone so this will be short on the words until I can get my computer up and running today. But I thought I would let you all know about my flights with the Foonf, and the my ride 65. I even got a couple of ok photos. The Foonf is actually not to bad to travel with as long as you have a rolling cart and someone with you, or a child that can walk. I was not able to take the time to attempt a RF install on any of the flights we where on and it is simpler to travel through the airport with the Foonf in ff mode. I put the Foonf in position 2 for in the air to make it easier for my kiddo to sleep.

A couple of hints for install, if you have small hands you will not need the seatbelt extender however it might make it easier to install, although I am not sure how tight of an install can be achieved. Make sure when installing that the release of the seatbelt is not up against the back if the seat and trapped.

The Foonf does not allow the tray table to lay down, but it does not take up much forward to back space. Compared to the Myride 65 it was tiny.

The myride 65 worked great on the plane but one tip make sure you get a seatbelt extender because otherwise the dang thing will get stuck on the plane. I found if I shortened the female end of the existing seat belt to its tightest setting the used the extender to secure the seat, removing the seat at the end of the flight took seconds. The my ride was also ff as we where on very small planes most of our trip.

Transport through the airport:

Wow! I would never have guessed the Foonf would travel so well! I have been wondering about this but was very skeptical. My dream was to FF on the plane and pack the wedge to save on space also so thanks so much for posting this. How was getting it down the aisle? Did the flight attendants make any comments? I saved my outgrown for RF BLVD 70 for travelling but we might go to Puerto Rico since we need to use a bunch of ff miles. DH and I went there for our honeymoon. We loved it but my husband said that I swore more while driving there than the entire time he has known me. The idea of having DS FF was making me nervous. This is great news. :D

I couldn't see the pics on the plane yet. Should be interesting.

If I actually do it, I think it would be a hoot. I have been flying with my sister's 5 kids back and forth from Germany for the last 15 years so I am used to flying with kids.

I will post the link for my flkr account of the plan pics hopefully you can see them. I will try and answer the questions the best I know how.

Getting on the larger plane getting the foonf down the aisle wasn't bad, if the plane aisle has a 17 inch clearance you and the cart used does too it works great. Other wise you have to carry it in front of you by silver bar support things. (You know that part of the seat that is freezing cold in the winter) I would get a small carry on bag that you can place in the seat that will hold the anti-rebound bar and the foot/boot thing so that you do not have to worry about it being lost in checked baggage. Even a plastic sack will work because you can place it under the seat in front of the car seat on the plan. It is not like your kiddo will need the foot space. Our checked baggage on the way home missed our flight and we had to head home and wait for them to get it to us. We got in at 2 and our bags arrived at 9pm.

The flight attendants and any crew members who helped us, and several did, kept mentioning how heavy the seat was. The TSA agents were not thrilled about the weight either.

It was a dream installing on the plane, I suggest installing in position 2 on the plane as often as possible as it gives you better access to the seat belt when it comes time to remove it, and it makes it simpler for kiddo to sleep. My kiddo's head kept falling forward when I left the seat in position 1, but on two he slept like a dream in the seat.

Hmmm, maybe I would actually take it on a plane! For FFing use it wouldn't be bad at all. Did your luggage cart fit down the aisle? If so what kind was it?

Thanks for the great tips. I was surprised how much front to back room there was. Will definitely do recline position 2 so DS can sleep. Now I just have to remember not to forget the recline wedge thingie under the seat.

Thank you for posting this! I have a couple of questions, in your pictures when the seat is in the plane is the seat in position 2 (it looks very upright to me...)? And also, where you able to fit the seat through the x-ray machine while going through security?

Thanks!

Hi, in the picture the seat was in position one, this is when I found out that two was easier. I had only one flight where I had enough time to take a quick picture.

The seat did not fit in the small HIlton Head airport X-ray machine. The big airport near me ended up putting it in a recline position and there is no way the car seat will go through that way. We however were allowed to leave it on the rolling cart an hand it it to them that way, the same as our double stroller.

With the exception of the weight it is a great seat to fly with.

When I get on my computer I will post a link for it, I did have one problem with it, the handle bar was barely taller then the seat.

The marathon doesn't fit either. If you tell them ahead of time they will just scan it or whatever.

Thanks for clarifying! And for the additional info!!

I guess convertible car seats don't fit easily in those machines and they are not TSA's best friends... Our big Orbit Baby doesn't fit either and for some reasons it's always a big problem here at IAH (Houston) :( I'm always dreading to go through security, with 5 kiddos, the carry-on luggages and the car seats... I am really looking at simplifying our travels with lighter and smaller everything... The Foonf is probably not for us then :(:(

I would love to know what kind of cart you used to fly with Foonf!

On another note, our Boulevard cover has been torn in several places by the Atlanta TSA agents forcing it into the X-ray machine! It comes out all grease-smeared and with a new small tear or rip every time. We bought another cover, but couldn't find the same one, and DD insists that her seat is pink and won't get in it otherwise...

Anyone tried the Foonf RFing on a plane yet? Mine is for my 9mo son (who is too big for his KF30 already.) I'll also be traveling with a Radian, so I could do my 3.5yo in the Foonf FF on the plane and the 9mo RF in the Radian. Any thoughts?

I have no experience with flying with it but if the Foonf works RF for you, I'd do that and use the RN FF. The RN FF is a fantastic seat, easy to install and allows for the tray to be fully down. It's my preferred FF air travel seat.
