Question My brand new seats are 16 months old, big deal or not?

I was very excited my two new Radians arrived yesterday, but I felt a bit let down when I saw they were manufactured in 9/11. I did get a good deal ordering from Buy Buy Baby and having them price match another site. I could understand getting old stock if these seats had been a clearance deal, but they weren't.
To be honest, I don't know if the seats being over a year old will shorten my use of them. According to the manual, they expire as harnessed seats at 8 years and boosters at 10 years. My middle son is 3, average size, and the seat will be good as a harnessed seat until just before he turns 10, and as a booster until he is almost 12. My youngest is big (27.5 lbs, 31.5" at 13 months) and following in my oldest son's footsteps (51 lbs, 46.5" at 5 yrs 2 months). My youngest son's new Radian will be good harnessed until he's almost 8 and as a booster until almost 10. It's hard to imagine still needing boosters in middle school, but some kids do.
I had never ordered car seats before, just purchased in store where I could check manufacture dates. Is this normal when you order online? If you were in my place, would it bother you?

I would ignore the 10 year booster expiration as most children will outgrow the seat by height before hitting the 50 pound minimum for booster mode, or won't fit it well for very long. I would just use the 8 year expiration for comparison purposes. You have 79 months of 96 months of use left, so ~82%. If you paid 82% or less than what Radians typically sell for, I would say you got a good deal, especially since they will expire after your youngest will have likely outgrown them.

I like them to be within a year. Chances are though your kids will have outgrown or nearly outgrown them by the time they expire. It would really depend on how good the deal was. Most kids will outgrow these and still need at least a no back booster.

I paid $169.99 and they retail for $259.99, so it is a good deal. Thanks, that makes me feel better.

Call BBB customer service and explain that you are upset the DOM is so old. Maybe they will give you an extra 10% off. BRU did for me.
