Let's play a game called 'Spot the issue'

So, I was test driving a 2012 Ford Focus today (Canadian). I decided to peruse the manual for LATCH info. This is what one of the paragraphs read:

"Once the child safety seat has been installed using either the safety belt, or the lower anchors of the LATCH system, or both, you can attach the top tether strap."

Does this strike anyone else as odd? Is a mistake or actually permissible in certain scenarios?

I'm just trying to imagine a non-tech parent reading this and then installing the seat wrong but correct according to the vehicle manufacturer's instructions.

I thought that new Fords allow both the seatbelt and LATCH to be used - IF the carseat allows it... and only Combi allows both to be used - IF the vehicle allows it. I could be really wrong, that's just what I vaguely remember reading back when I was looking into Coccoros last year.

This is my understanding as well.

Ah well, that would explain it. We don't have Combi seats up here, north of the border. I'm sure the manual is specific to Canada but I guess it will allow for car seats to allow it in the future. Thanks for the clarification.

I still think it's going to confuse a lot of parents and make them think that doubling up is allowed on seats that don't permit it. They could have added a simple, "If your car seat allows both to be used at the same time."
