Bargain store shopping

So, I finally trekked out to Bargain Hunt. I was absolutely awed! And snagged a RadianRXT in a box with original tape on it, though the box looked like it had been on a lot of trucks (no tears in the actual box, nothing seriously dented in, but very scuffed and such). My Coccoro box came to my door more battered looking so I don't feel bad about that. They had a bunch of seats without boxes though. I saw seats I've always assumed I'd only ever read about! But... Even if any had been what I was looking for (a HBB that my 9 year old would fit in), I don't know how I'd feel about buying any of those. How were they shipped to the store? Am I crazy for thinking that way or should seats at stores like this be considered the same as a used seat? They had an Oobr for $120, but with no box.

I don't think I would feel comfortable buying without a box but at the same time I always think, no matter where you get a seat from, you never know where it's been. Walmart and babies r us and all those places accept returns on things so how do you know someone didn't drop it or even had it in an accident within the 1st day and then just returned it to the store....

ETA: I should say, I am not familiar with store policies about this type of thing, I know they accept returns but I don't know if they have to have them inspected before reselling or something, the thought of that just always bothered me.

I think the seats get returned to the manufacturer.

I hope so! I always worried about that because I know the MR we bought my son from walmart was opened but like every seat there was! Walmart always attaches their display models to the shelf so I think people were opening boxes to try a seat out on the floor instead of trying to put their kid on the shelf. I was a little nervous about buying it but it had everything with it and was clean and everything, I can't even recall anymore if there were any tags attached though.

It looked untouched by human hands. Shockingly pristine, cleaner than a seat is after just 24 hours in my car! But only some not in box seats had loose tags, the others didn't. There was a Frontier (actually, 3), and each had a manual attached, but no other loose tags (plenty of stickers though). I've never seen a Frontier before though & don't :know: what would be attached if I ordered one new online and unboxed it at home.

Oh, and the Oobr didn't have a manual & I couldn't figure out how to raise the back, so we couldn't really see how he fit... but he hated the seat of it, too shallow.

I was at Bargain Hunt today and only looked at seats in boxes. Most seats on the shelf looked brand new but you never know...one pretty pink MA70 had obviously been used while others were perfect. Many high end strollers out of boxes too but that's not a safety issue just a quality issue.

:yeahthatsad: I probably over think these things, but I've had the same thoughts.
