Question Need help with forward facing installation of Marathon 70 in Acura MDX

Hi all,

I've searched the forums but haven't found this info. I must be doing something wrong. I've been using the Marathon 70 rear facing and found that easy to install. When I turned it around, though, I find that it doesn't sit flat on the seat.

I'm installing it in the center position using LATCH in my 2010 MDX. I put the car seat flat on seat, but when I tighten the LATCH straps, it pulls the seat backward enough that there is a tiny gap below the back of the car seat base. It's barely visible, but I can press lightly on the seat and get a finger under there.

Anyone know how I can get the Marathon 70 to sit flat on the seat?

Many thanks!

How old and heavy is your child?

Do you have it in recline position one or two for forward facing? You have the top tether done up?

Thanks, Wendy, for responding so quickly. My child is ~35 lbs and 3 years old. We had to turn his other seat around in our other car, so now he wants to be forward facing in my car, too.

I did attach the top tether, but I don't think it made a difference. I have it in recline position 2. I could change that, but position 1 looked pretty upright to me.

Ok. The top tether won't make it more secure. It's to reduce head excursion.

Position two is fine. What I'd do is pull it away from the backseat enough to make the base flat, then add weight straight down as you tighten down the LATCH straps. Then do up the top tether. It's ok if there's a gap behind the seat and the backseat, but not ok for there to be a gap under the base.
